Feminist opinions: Righteous convictions or gateway drugs?
I know I should just let it go. But I get this sick satisfaction with being an articulate, snarky feminist in the anonymous world of email. But I think it’s becoming an addiction. I’ve become involved in the comments section of a well-intentioned but rather “mansplaining” article online and I just. Can’t. Stop. Commenting.
I turned some misogynist asshat’s victim blaming rhetoric against him. (And rather well, I thought.) After being dismissed as a “typical feminist”—which he clearly defined oh-so-well for me—and after a loooooooong response to his general asshattery, I concluded:
“Your ‘If you don’t like men looking at your cleavage, don’t show it.’ argument is too simple—but it works both ways.
If you don’t like feminists pointing out your sexist remarks, don’t say them. It’s so easy! All you have to do is cover up your mouth and you won’t bring their clearly unwanted attention!”
